I don't have anything really to add to the conversation that hasn't already been said by other reviewers. But I can reiterate that DD-WRT is the way to go. I purchased the refurb for 30.99 on Amazon. It came in new condition and everything was there, no complaints there. I initially tried to configure with the Linksys firmware but it was a waste of time. Very slow to update, wouldn't save changes, etc. I had no confidence in it whatsoever. So I went to the DD-WRT site and downloaded their open source firmware based on recommendations from other reviewers. Wow, DD-WRT is fantastic! The configuration page is much more sophisticated and runs really smooth. And the help menus with DD-WRT are excellent as well. I got everything configured on the router first attempt, no hassles. My network has some complexity to it so this is no minor accomplishment. Speed is excellent and so far it's totally reliable. Anyway, for 30.99 I have a blazing fast wireless N router with excellent configuration capabilities. I couldn't be happier with my purchase (thanks to the DD-WRT). I should have done the upgrade a long time ago.

This router seems to do the job. Most of the house areas seem to be in its range. I haven't tried using my laptop in the backyard or front porch as of yet.

I expected the setup for this wireless N-router to be a pain, based on some of the reviews, but I guess I lucked out. My home network is in the same sub-net as the router and I have no devices on 192.168.1.1 that's the router's pre-set address. So I just patched one of the Cisco switch ports (not the broadband one) into my broad band router and then opened a browser to 192.168.1.1, changed the address, set up wireless SSID and security and stuff and it was in service in less than 20 minutes.
I'm using this for additional switch ports and as a wireless-N media access point and as a backup for the broadband interface, so I didn't need to do the broadband setup. I never did use the install CD. So if your LAN setup is like mine, give this setup procedure a try. If this thing gets flaky any time soon, I'll post a followup. I'm happy with this $30 device.
Day 2 update: As reported elsewhere, the wireless network does not say up with the firmware as delivered. I bit the bullet and applied the dd-wrt update.

Be careful doing the update. There's great advice given in several of the reviews here and the on-line documentation is complete. Don't skip through it as errors may brick your device rendering it unusable.
